Postnatal Doula in Worthing and Sussex

I'm Mai, a postnatal doula based in Worthing. I offer practical and emotional support at home in the days and weeks after your baby arrives, so you can rest, recover and find your feet as a family. I visit families across Worthing, Brighton, Hove, Shoreham, Lancing, Chichester and the wider Sussex area, usually up to about an hour from Worthing.

What does a postnatal doula do?

A postnatal doula supports the whole family after birth. I'm there to look after you while you look after your baby. That can mean anything from a listening ear and a cup of tea to help with feeding, settling and getting a little more rest.

I'm not a medical professional, and I work alongside your midwife and health visitor rather than replacing them. If something needs specialist help, I'll encourage you to speak to them and help you find the right person.

What's included in Postnatal Support

  • Home visits planned around you. We agree together how often I visit and for how long, and we can change it as your needs change.

  • Feeding support. Practical help and reassurance with breastfeeding, bottle feeding or a mix of both, without judgement.

  • Newborn care guidance. Settling, bathing, nappies and getting to know your baby's cues, so you feel more confident.

  • Time to rest. I can hold the baby while you shower, nap or eat a proper meal.

  • Emotional support. Space to talk about your birth, how you're feeling and the big changes in your life.

Why families choose postnatal support

The early weeks with a newborn can be beautiful and overwhelming at the same time. Partners often go back to work quickly, family may live far away, and it's normal to feel unsure of yourself. Having a calm, familiar person come to your home can make those weeks feel more manageable and less lonely.

Postnatal support is for any family: first babies, second or third babies, twins, families who had a straightforward birth and families recovering from a more difficult one.

Postnatal doula questions

When does postnatal support start?

Usually as soon as you're home with your baby, but you can start whenever you need it. Some families book before birth and some get in touch a few weeks in, when they realise they'd like more help.

How long does postnatal support last?

That's up to you. Some families want a few visits in the first couple of weeks, others want regular support over several weeks. We'll agree a plan on our free call and adjust it as you go.

How much does a postnatal doula cost?

My support is tailored to each family, so prices are on enquiry. I'll give you a clear price once we've talked through what you need.

What's the difference between a postnatal doula and a maternity nurse?

A maternity nurse usually focuses on caring for the baby, often living in. A postnatal doula looks after the whole family, especially the parent who has just given birth, and supports you to build your own confidence rather than taking over.

Do you offer overnight support?

Get in touch to ask about overnight support. We can talk through what you need on your free call.
